"I can't even express how much I love this book! I didn't want this story to end!"--Reese Witherspoon

"Painfully beautiful."--The New York Times Book Review

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life--until the unthinkable happens.

Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

Beautifully written ... Soulful and eloquent, the author seamlessly creates characters who are defined by contrast. Humanity and nature, particularly of the Carolina marshes, often mimic each other in surprising ways. The tapestry of words woven of these threads creates a novel filled with life... at its rawest and its finest moments.

I can’t believe I waited so long to read this book! Words can’t express how much I LOVE this book... I couldn’t put it down... so much emotion! READ NOW you won’t regret it!
  • Great book, hated the ended:(

Took a while to really get into it, but once I did I couldn’t put it down! I was up until 1..2...3am because I kept telling myself “one more chapter”. I really liked but if I’m being honest I hated the ending. I felt it was a tad abrupt and slightly predictable. I would still recommend it to anyone who loves to read page turners. The characters were wonderful and the author did an amazing job of painting the picture.

Where the crawdads sings left me wondering amazed and in awe. It takes you into this young girls life and you are left growing and understanding with her when others in the book do not. A must read, thrilling, perfection.

I walked each step with Kya through words and images beautifully written as if she were Kya, as if she was Big Red and certainly, she was.
  • So beautifully haunting

This book is outstanding. The narrative is fluid and gripping. The main characters are authentic and real. The setting is flawless and the descriptions are breathtaking. Besides all that, its just a really good book that kept me invested the whole way through. It is a little slow in the beginning but hangs in there its worth it.
